Target "Gear Frame"

Project: "Gears" Picture Frame
Year: 2001
Client: Market Vision, the Frames are sold in Macy's west and Target throughout the country

Project Description: Market Vision is a company specializing in the production of picture frames. They distinguish themselves from others in this crowded market through clever design. It is common for a frame to have many moving parts and mechanisms. The focus is on novelty. As the products are often purchased as gifts, the first impression of the product is the most important.

Design Process

In devising concepts I was told to think of "Mouse Trap," the children's board game. I developed an array of concepts ranging from conservative to absurd. One line of concepts involved gears. Market vision saw potential in the sketch shown on the left.

The Product

A few modifications were made and the frame went into production. To date over 200,000 units have been sold to Target and Macy's West.
